Morning Routines & Ginger Shots

My favorite morning “routine” is waking up and doing whatever the fuck I want. Top activities include: laying in bed till I get hungry, trying to remember my dreams, sitting on my fires escape watching the street, going to the coffee shop (and watching the street), making tinctures, and fermenting things in the fridge.

Tinctures and ferments are a tiny world in themselves. A little space to be creative, meditative, follow whims, and see things come alive. I never made a ginger shot before, but now I’m smitten. Cute, powerful, rooted, and intoxicatingly spicy. Every sip felt like a challenge and an invitation. She might be my role model for the season.

To make a ginger shot, I used my emersion blender to blitz a chunk of washed, unpeeled ginger and a little bit of water. I slowly added just enough water to make it like extremely pulpy OJ or thick carrot soup (vs mashed potatoes). Then I poured it through a strainer and squished the pulpy fibers dry. I added a little bit of honey. Some lemon could be good too. Then sip and let me know if you are able to exhale without sounding like a lion.
